Midnight Tales was
obviously meant as a title given to Wayne Howard as a reward for
his loyalty to Charlton. Howard, an artist classed in the Wood school of
art (a fancy way of saying he was a Wood-imitator) did all covers and the
majority of stories in each issue. Since the demise of Midnight Tales he
did some work for Marvel and DC, then left the industry. I once thought he
might have died, but was corrected by Kinnear Penman. Thanks
Kinnear!
The title was hosted by Professor Coffin, also
called the Midnight Philosopher, and his stunning niece
Arachne.
The series was later revived under the new title of Professor
Coffin, but consisted of reprints only.
